| Wilshire Homes Wins Gold at National Energy Awards Competition |
|
It was recently announced that Wilshire Homes was the only production builder in the hot climate category to win the NAHB Research Center’s 2008 EnergyValue Housing Award (EVHA). The EVHA are presented each year to homebuilders across the country that voluntarily team energy efficiency and environmental stewardship; incorporating elements of each into the design, construction, and marketing of new homes. Hundreds of builders entered and Wilshire received the highest honor and took home the Gold. “Judging for this competitive awards program is tough,” says Wilshire Vice President of Marketing, Kim McDaniel. “It’s truly an honor to just final in this stringent competition that takes into consideration every aspect of how we design and construct to be environmentally sensitive and energy efficient. It’s hard to express how gratifying it is to actually win.” Each year builders are evaluated by a panel of experts in the fields of engineering, residential energy, construction, design, and marketing. Finalists are selected based on their homes’ energy value; design; construction methods and processes; marketing efforts; and how they successfully execute a whole-house, systems design approach. According to this year’s judges, EVHA applicants raised the bar by demonstrating that energy efficient homes can offer both higher performance and the popular aesthetic features homebuyers seek. Among the finalists’ entries, judges found exemplary practices related to climate-specific selection of equipment and systems, advanced air sealing and ductwork, high-efficiency equipment, innovative construction techniques, and consumer education. EVHA winners set themselves apart in the marketplace and add value to their business, their customers, and the environment. EVHA winners were announced on Feb. 13 during the National Association of Home Builders 2008 International Builders Show (IBS) in Orlando, Florida. Award categories included affordable, custom, factory-built, production, and multifamily housing in hot, moderate, and cold climate regions. In its 13th year, the EVHA is coordinated by the NAHB Research Center in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy through the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).
